The Library accepts applications for available positions only.  An individual must complete an official Spartanburg County Public Library Application Form in order to be considered an applicant for employment. 

NOTE:  A resume CANNOT be used as a substitute for an employment form or work history but may be attached as additional information.

Applicants who do not meet the availability and minimum education and experience requirements indicated in the job posting or do not have the ability to perform the essential functions for the position, with or without accommodation, will not be considered for employment.

Applications are evaluated by the supervisors and the Human Resource Manager after the date listed on the job posting.  A few candidates are selected and contacted for an interview.

We unfortunately cannot contact and interview everyone who applies. If you have not heard from us within thirty days you may assume that the position has been offered to a candidate whose qualifications were best suited for the position.

SALARY: $8.00 per hour minimum

HOURS:

Position #1- 15.75 average hours per week Mon-Fri 9:00am-12:00pm and every 4th weekend: Sat 8:45-12:45 or 2:15-6:15 and Sun 1:15-6:15

Position #2- 14.25 average hours per week Mon-Fri 5:00pm-8:00pm and every 4th Fri 6:15pm-9:15pm, and every 4th weekend: Sat 8:45-12:45 or 2:15-6:15 and Sun 1:15-6:15

Position #3- 15.25 average hours per week: Monday-Thursday 6:00-9:15pm and every 4th Friday 6:00pm-9:15pm and every 4th weekend: Sat 8:45-12:45 or 2:15-6:15 and Sun 1:15-6:15

Note: All positions involve a day off before and after the weekend worked. Persons may be asked to work at other times as needed.

JOB TITLE: Reference Librarian II, Grade 24 (References, Law Library, and Government Resources)
LOCATION: Reference Services, Headquarters

SALARY:
$38,163 minimum per year.
HOURS: FLSA exempt position, equivalent to non-exempt 40 hour position. Hours are generally, Mon-Fri including some evening and weekend hours.

REQUIREMENTS: * ALA/MLS and relevant experience working in public libraries, including some supervisory experience. * Strong commitment to delivery of excellent customer service. * Must enjoy working with the public of all ages. * Proven management and supervisory experience. * Experience and proficiency with current library technology, including internet, databases, PC software, web-based and communications applications. * Thorough knowledge of information services, resources, and procedures. * Excellent communication skills, oral and written. * Good general knowledge of collection development principles and practices. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.

DESIRABLE: * Familiarity or experience with Federal and SC state government information, including depository resources, procedures, and practices. * Familiarity with law library operations, legal research and resources. * Collection development experience.

DUTIES INCLUDE: * Managing day-to-day operations of Law Library. * Supervision of clerks and assistants in the Reference Area and Law Library. * Community outreach programming. * Coordinating Federal and SC state depository resources and collections, print and electronic, including selection, training and promotion. * Team participation in technology training of public and staff. * Related duties as required.

JOB TITLE: Graphic Artist, Grade 16
LOCATION: Headquarters

SALARY: Hiring range: $1,076 per month
HOURS: 20 hours per week, flexible schedule (Monday-Friday, between 8-5pm)
REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelor’s degree in graphic, commercial or fine arts and experience in a related field preferred. Other combinations of education and experience that meet the minimum requirements may be considered. • Good knowledge of perspective, balance, color and composition in creative processes. • Strong design skills and the ability to produce compelling materials in a timely fashion. • Valid SC driver’s license and good driving record. • Good attendance record. • Ability to use peripherals such as scanners, DVD/CD burners, etc. • Experience with MS Office 2007 and imaging software such as Adobe Photoshop. • Comfortable with Web 2.0 and social networking concepts. • Ability to provide friendly customer service to staff and the public. • Must give close attention to details. • Good communication and verbal skills. • Ability to prioritize projects and manage time wisely.
DUTIES: • Designs artwork and layouts for Library materials (brochures, bookmarks, fliers, newspaper/magazine ads, signs, special announcements, logos, mailings, website postings, etc.). • Determines size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, selects style and size of type, and arranges layout based upon available space and aesthetic design concepts. • Maintains design consistency in all Library publications. • Determines time management of projects to ensure timely distribution.

• Experience with MS Office 2007, particularly Excel and Access
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ASP, SQL and other web development programming languages
• Experience using ExpressionWeb and/or other various web editing tools
• Experience with statistical analysis and compilation

SALARY: $48,707 per year
HOURS: FLSA exempt position, compatible with non-exempt 40 hour work week. Monday – Friday 8:30 – 5:30 Must be flexible to work nights and weekends if needed.

REQUIREMENTS: *ALA / MLS with a minimum of five years experience in Reference Services in a Public Library and a minimum of three years of supervisory experience. *Proven ability to lead and direct staff in new endeavors and work together as a team. *Knowledgeable of up-to-date practices for providing quality reference services using new technologies and models of service. *Thorough knowledge of Internet resources and excellent Internet searching skills. *Ability to connect to community needs by providing instructional programming. *Excellent organizational skills with ability to complete reports, make schedules, and meet deadlines. *Excellent verbal, written, computer and technology skills. *Knowledge of professional library principles, procedures, materials and practices. *Must enjoy working with diverse public of all ages. *Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.

DESIRABLE: *Project management experience. *Experience planning and teaching instructional programs. *Experience in ordering reference materials and subscriptions for online databases and periodicals. *Experience working with community agencies.
